Mobex Isle of Man
Successfully operating for the past three years Mobex is
one of the Isle of Man Children's Centre's newest services.
It has been established to deliver outdoor
education, arts, music and other creative mediums
to children, young people and adults throughout the Island.
The project consists of a team of qualified and experienced
staff and a specially converted long wheel base minibus capable
of carrying both passengers as well as a wide range of equipment
enabling groups to travel to venues throughout the Island
and the UK.
Mobex is a mobile, flexible, low cost, networking
project:
Mobex Isle of Man is a mobile project that
is able to travel to any venue that best suits the specific
client group. For young
people this may be a remote "wilderness" area allowing
constructive use of high energy or providing them access to
experiences they could never have within an urban area. Alternatively
it may be that a training programme involves some community
service and is thus best located within on of the Island's
major towns. Clearly the mobile nature of the project also
easily supports off Island experiences.
Mobex Isle of Man is flexible as it designs
each training programme hand in hand with the young people
involved. This creative and dynamic approach helps to engage
the young people in their own training and development.
Mobex Isle of Man is a low cost resource
as the Isle of Man Children's Centre raises charitable funds
to subsidise its use to the public. To this end youth groups
and young people are able to access the resources and expert
staffing that Mobex holds without
significant cost.
Mobex Isle of Man is a networking project.
Its aim is to work with other organisations already engaging
with groups of young people. Mobex hopes to support these
organisations by providing additional activities and experiences
that help workers and young people build constructive relationships.
Mobex holds full activity insurance and is licensed through
the UK Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.

CLIENT GROUPS
Mobex has no predetermined client groups. Indeed, the Project
Leader is able to discuss and design programmes of personal
development and team development training with any potential
group.
The following client group summaries represent a sample of
the groups Mobex is currently working with:
- Young people excluded from school. These
young people are provided with an activity day once a week
which focuses upon their own self-esteem and their ability
to function within a team environment.
- Young people in care . Mobex works with
a number of children currently in care. As individuals they
require support and personal guidance as well as the need
to be constructively occupied during their time in care.
The personal approach and physical challenge of the outdoors
and other activities "stretches" these young people
through new and innovative experiences.
- Mental Health . Mobex works with a group
f young adults faced with a variety of mental health challenges.
The regular weekly activities help these people to focus
on their positives and "can do's" rather than
their own issues and misgivings.
- Special Needs School
Groups . Mobex currently works with two separate
groups that comprise young peple whom, for a variety of
reasons, are struggling with mainstream education.
- Organisational Staff Team Events . Mobex
has facilitated a number of programmes for organisations
that wish to develop their staff teams cohesiveness and
ability to both ask for and offer mutual support. This area
of work is specifically promoted through the CPD
branch of IOMCC.
